BOSS paints: A brand built on innovation

As a leading paint manufacturer and retailer in the Benelux market, BOSS paints has built a strong reputation for high-quality products and expert service. BOSS paints serves a diverse target group, including professional painters, architects, contractors, and end consumers. Through their extensive retail and franchise network under the colora brand, they are uniquely positioned to support both B2B and B2C customers. This structure allows them to meet the needs of professionals while also offering inspiration and advice directly to consumers.

BOSS paints had been operating on Sitecore and Magento, but to support their future ambitions and craft, the company decided to rebuild its entire digital platform from the ground up. Rather than simply replacing existing systems, the goal was to create a modern, API-driven architecture that could support multiple websites while allowing for flexibility, scalability, and improved user experiences.

Two Point O was asked to build the following websites: ✓ B2B commerce platform for professional users (BOSS paints) ✓ B2C commerce platform for retail customers (colora) ✓ Two job platforms tailored to the B2B and B2C BOSS paints and colora audiences ✓ Corporate website to unify brand messaging and company information

Collaborating with II.O was a really smooth and positive experience. We started with a large, complex project that required flexibility as new insights came up along the way. Communication was always easy, and the II.O team consistently brought smart, solution-oriented thinking to the table. With each sprint, we saw real progress, and the engagement of our key users and testers stayed strong throughout. When we launched, the new websites were really well received—both inside the company and by our customers. Our B2B clients now actively use the platform and tell us it makes tasks like placing orders or checking invoices much simpler. Although our B2C website has just launched, we can also already see a positive impact. We’re genuinely happy with the result.

A collaborative approach to a complex challenge

This required more than just technology; it called for close collaboration. Over two years and 52 agile sprints, Two Point O worked side by side with BOSS paints to bring this vision to life.

The project was a balancing act:

  • Ensuring consistency across platforms while allowing for brand-specific elements

  • Integrating backend systems with content management and front-end development while all elements were continuously in motion and different teams worked on different parts of the platform (e.g. the API was created internally by BOSS paints while the front-end was developed by Two Point O)

  • Developing a user-friendly content management experience that the marketing team could adopt with ease

Rather than building a one-size-fits-all platform, the approach was modular—an API-first architecture that allowed each site to share key components while maintaining the distinct identity of BOSS paints and colora. A shared component library streamlined development, ensuring efficiency without sacrificing flexibility. Meanwhile, extensive testing and real user validation guided every step of the process, ensuring that the final product didn’t just meet technical requirements but truly worked for the people using it.

Business perspective: A platform designed for marketing efficiency

A seamless transition without costly disruption

One of the biggest concerns when implementing a new digital platform is the impact on daily operations. If the system is too complex, it can lead to slow adoption, costly training, and inefficiencies in marketing workflows. BOSS paints needed a solution that allowed their marketing team to continue working effectively without steep learning curves or delays. By designing an intuitive content management experience, and efficient internal communications within BOSS paints, the transition was smooth—content editors required minimal training and could immediately work within the new system.

Simplifying content management across multiple platforms

Managing content across different websites can be time-consuming and prone to errors. With a shared component library, BOSS Paints' editors could work more efficiently by using familiar building blocks across all platforms. This reduced duplication, minimised inconsistencies, and ensured that updates could be deployed quickly while maintaining a high level of content quality.

Immense dedication to deliver the best result

BOSS paints invested significant time and resources into the project to ensure the platform they launched would be the best it could be. With a structured project approach, clear and consistent communication, and rigorous user validation testing, BOSS paints reaffirmed its commitment to delivering excellence at every stage. With a structured project approach, open communication lines and dedicated testers for user validation testing, they ensured that this project was the best it could be. We cannot be more grateful that BOSS paints dedicated themselves entirely to the success of this project.

Technical perspective: A structured, API-first approach

Data consistency across all channels

The new platform was built on an API-first architecture, enabling clean and efficient integrations across CMS, commerce, and product data systems. This ensures that data remains consistent across all platforms while allowing for future scalability without major infrastructure overhauls.

A component-based frontend with reusability in mind

Rather than developing entirely separate sites, Two Point O implemented a shared component library, allowing elements to be reused across multiple platforms while still permitting brand-specific variations where necessary. This approach significantly reduced development time and ensured that future updates could be deployed more efficiently.

Increased stability and reliability

When launching a new platform, the risk of post-launch issues can be high—especially with complex, multi-platform solutions. Thanks to structured testing and key user validation, as well as automated testing and code quality control, the B2B commerce platform went live with zero post-launch interventions. This level of stability is a direct result of the methodical development process and close alignment between teams, ensuring the final product was ready for real-world use from day one.

Conclusion: A digital foundation as durable as their paint

By taking a structured, collaborative approach, BOSS paints successfully transitioned to a modern, efficient digital platform that not only supports their current needs but also prepares them for future growth. With an intuitive content management system, a modular architecture, and seamless integrations, the company has gained a flexible, scalable foundation that allows them to adapt as their business evolves.

With real results already showing in B2B user growth and smooth platform adoption, this project demonstrates how a well-executed digital transformation can improve efficiency, simplify operations, and create long-term business value.
